Shollei calls for action against Koimburi over alleged staged abduction
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei wants disciplinary action taken against Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi, following allegations that he staged his own abduction.
She insists that Koimburi has no valid reason to be hospitalised and has labelled the MP’s actions as a criminal offence, urging authorities to prosecute him if found guilty.
“Koimburi is pretending to be sick in hospital. He has committed four offences: making a false statement contrary to Section 66 of the Penal Code, providing false information to the police, causing a public disturbance, and inciting the public,” said Shollei, who is also the Woman Representative for Uasin Gishu County.
Speaking at a women’s empowerment event in Aldai Constituency, Nandi County, the Deputy Speaker reiterated that Koimburi’s behaviour undermines public trust in elected officials and should be addressed with the seriousness it deserves.
She asserted that the MP’s recent disappearance was a self-staged incident designed to attract public sympathy and political advantage, and he should be held accountable for such actions.
“We are asking Juja MP George Koimburi to get out of Karen Hospital so that we can have him arrested and charged in court for the offence of self-abduction. The Privileges Committee of Parliament should have a hearing for him to show cause why he should not be suspended or removed as an MP,” Shollei asserted.
The police have promised to take action against the MP once a full investigation is complete.
While the lawmaker maintains that he was forcibly kidnapped before being found at a coffee farm in Ruiru, both the National Police Service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations insist that Koimburi stage-managed his abduction.
