Wa Iria flies helicopter to Murang’a to pick orders stopping his arrest » Capital News

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 17 — A contingent of lawyers staged a dramatic dash on Wednesday to collect court orders restraining security services from arresting former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria as detectives picked up his wife.

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru rushed to Murang’a from Nairobi landing at Mumbi Grounds on a helicopter where a waiting Landcruiser picked him up for the assignment.

Njiru then made his way back and rushed back to a helicopter whose rotors were already spinning, ready for takeoff.

The development unfolded even as Wa Iria’s wife Jane Kimani appeared at the Milimani Law Courts alongside the former county chief’s brother-in-law Mutura Kimani.

The Kimanis are directors of Value Views Limited, one of the firms linked to a multi-million scam at Murang’a County during Wa Iria’s tenure.

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had picked up the two in a raid even as Wa Iria remained in hiding.

Wa Iria is among six other suspects wanted in a Sh140 million graft case endorsed by the Office of the Director for Public Prosecutions.

Also wanted are former County Secretary Patrick Kagumu, Wa Iria’s aide Peter Muturi, Jane Mburia (Director, Top Image Media Consultancy) and her co-director David Maian.

Wa Iria had secured orders barring his arrest together with Mburia.
