Murkomen confident President Ruto will be re-elected
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has expressed confidence that William Ruto will be remembered fondly by Kenyans after his tenure as President.
Murkomen believes that despite the challenges Ruto’s leadership has faced so far, he will guide Kenya towards prosperity, much to the delight of the majority of citizens.
According to Murkomen, the issues confronting Ruto’s administration are reminiscent of the challenges during President Mwai Kibaki’s first term in office, which Kibaki overcame and subsequently earned the support of many Kenyans, leading to his re-election in 2007.
He said Kibaki was forced to reappoint his Cabinet following a referendum just three years into his presidency. At that time, he said it seemed as though Kibaki’s presidency was finished, and many people were reluctant to serve in his Cabinet.
“Kibaki needed people to stabilize the country. So, he needed a broad-based government. And he had to go to KANU, to pick people like the late John Koech, to come in to stabilize his administration,” he said during a memorial service for former Minister John Koech in Karen, Nairobi.
He noted the similarities between that period and the current situation in the country.
“What President Ruto did (broadbased-government) is not new. Kibaki did the same. The challenges president Ruto is facing are not new,” he remarked.
“In 2005, President Mwai Kibaki was the most unpopular person. Everybody was saying uchumi ni ya watu wachache. But Kibaki is the most celebrated President today. I am confident that the future of this country is in safe hands and success is ahead and presidet Ruto will be re-elected and celebrated like President Kibaki in future as the most transformative leader,” stated Murkomen.
