Several injured as fire destroys houses in Tassia, Embakasi
Several houses were destroyed by a fire in Nairobi’s Tassia Estate, Embakasi East, on Saturday night near the Tassia SDA Church.
A number of residents slept in the cold while others who were trapped in the affected houses sustained injuries.
They were subsequently treated at Mama Lucy Hospital. The incident was confirmed by Area MP Babu Owino, who took to X to request prayers.
“Pray for us as Fire is currently razing down houses at Tassia, Embakasi East. Property worth millions destroyed, children, Men and women left homeless, forced to spend the night in the cold. What a sad night in Embakasi East,” he tweeted.
The cause of the inferno is still unknown, but the fire was contained.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) has expressed concern over the rising number of fire incidents across the country.
In a statement, the organization revealed that it had responded to more than 22 fires in a single week.
“Our teams have been on the ground, responding and supporting affected communities,” KRCS said, following a fire in Narok on Saturday dawn that destroyed 30 structures made of timber and iron sheets.
Another incident was also reported in Mathare-Mabatini, Nairobi.
“These fires have affected 42 households, 48 businesses, two schools, and an unknown acreage of land, leaving 20 people injured,” KRCS added.
The organization emphasized that it continues to provide mental health and psychosocial support, first aid, and evacuation of the injured, working closely with both National and County Government teams.
