Fuel prices down by Sh10 in Kenya, easing burden on cost of living » Capital News
NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 14 – It was reprieve for Kenyans after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) declared a decrease in fuel prices, effective midnight Sunday until mid May.
In the new prices that effectively eases burden on Kenyans, Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene will see reductions of Sh5.30, Sh10.00, and Sh18.68 per liter, respectively.
This adjustment brings the retail prices to Sh193.84, Sh180.38, and Sh170.06 per liter for the coming month.
EPRA’s official statement on X page states, “During this period, the maximum allowable petroleum pump prices for Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene decrease by KShs.5.31, KShs.10.00, and KShs.18.68 per liter, respectively.” The prices include the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) as per the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020, and revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation according to Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.
EPRA made the announcement hours after President William Ruto hinted at a significant decrease in the cost of living, with fuel price reductions of up to Sh10.
“Today, maize flour was nearing Ksh.200, now close to Ksh.100. The dollar was Ksh.160, now it’s a hundred and twenty-something, and still dropping. Oil prices, as you have seen, have dropped by Ksh.10 today,” he said during a church service.
