Property destroyed in Moi’s Bridge fire
Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed by an early Saturday morning fire in Moi’s Bridge, Uasin Gishu.
The inferno suspected to have started from an electrical fault in one of the shops, spread to a nearby shop selling gas cylinders, causing explosions that fueled it further.
More than 50 shops were destroyed, with owners counting including businesses selling electronics and phones.
It took the swift intervention of firefighters from the Trans-Nzoia County Government to extinguish the blaze, which was rapidly spreading due to the gas explosions.
Residents of Moi’s Bridge have praised the Trans-Nzoia County Government for its timely intervention and assistance. They have also called on the Uasin Gishu County Government to provide a fire engine for Moi’s Bridge, which rapidly growing with no proper planning.
Area ACC Eddah Resiato urged residents to remain calm as investigations into the cause of the fire are launched. She stated that a multi-agency team has been engaged to determine the cause and will provide further updates accordingly.
Moi’s Bridge MCA Kimeli assured those affected that the Uasin Gishu County Government is assessing the damage and losses and will explore ways to support the impacted businesses.
