Eddie Butita reveals never before known details about his family
Eddie Butita has revealed his thoughts on education, career, family, and content creation. The comedian spoke to Mic Cheque Podcast for the first time about his family.
He has a brother, who lived with his mother in Ushago, while he stayed with his dad in Nairobi who was a truck driver.
“Waligawana. Familia ni moja but hatujakosana, unajua nyumbani tumejenga nyumba kubwa na hatuwezi wacha hivyo, So it was important my mum stay there, it was not a deliberate thing, my dad was a truck driver and passed home a lot, his routes were around Western.”
The successful thespian also disclosed how his parents decided which child lived in Nairobi or Butere.
“Since my brother is the older one, alipata ile phase, kuomoka ya kuenda Nairobi haija toka vizuri, so yeye part of life yake hata akiwa myoung, ilikuwa ocha.
So my dad went to Uplands , Limuru then to Koch (Korogocho). So Koch ndo mi nikazaliwa Koch. Kisumu ndogo. Koch na Kariobangi zimeshikana. So we stayed in Koch, then moved to K North.”
He also spoke about performing well in KCPE.
“KCPE nilipita, but walituletea emergency paper,” before adding, “Wangelete yenyewe, ah mi ninge pass. Sikudunda, time yetu pass mark ilikuwa 250. 251 ilikuwa tu kitu fiti, but nilipiga 3 something, bila kusoma.”
He also went on to criticisedthe education system,
“First of all exam ya Kenya iko wrong, One million students, ati watu wanne …majority are always right. Eti unapata KCSE, A ziko 120. You want to tell me out of 820k students, ah weh,
The exam is set for you to fail. Ni kureduce number ya masonko. Yani ata ukiangalia venye question imewekwa ni vita. we kaa ni mjinga, ujinga inakufuata.”
He feels he performed well despite circumstances,
“So mi nilipiga 3 something yangu safi, sikufika marks ya national schools, but nilipiga, ilikuwa ni 310 ama Ni 3 something, anything below 350 ni 3 something.”
His dad lost his job and this presented a challenge for him to go to high school.
“Mzee wangu job ilikatika nikiwa class 7. Mambo haikuwa fiti,”
Along the way, his dad opened a hardware. Butita went back to ushago, and joined Butere Boys. Fees though were still a challenge, but he cleverly found ways around it.Â
