NAIROBI Kenya, Apr 4 – Busia Governor Paul Otuoma has condemned the attack on the rural residence of area Senator Okiya Omtatah, urging relevant security agencies to swiftly address the matter.

Governor Otuoma said the incident was “disturbing and intolerable”, emphasising the importance of ensuring the security of both leaders and citizens of Kenya.

“In light of this alarming development, it is imperative that Senator Omtatah receives adequate security measures, while we demand a thorough investigation into this distressing case,” Otuoma said in a statement.

The attack is reported to have occurred when a group of unknown people stormed Senator Omtatah’s rural home on Wednesday night, seeking information about his whereabouts.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party also joined in condemning the assault, emphasizing the urgency of conducting a prompt and thorough inquiry.

In a statement, the ODM party underscored the need to safeguard the safety of all Kenyans, including political figures.

In response to the attack, senators have rallied in support of Senator Omtatah, demanding swift action from authorities.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei condemned the incident, asserting that such intimidations against senators are unacceptable and not aligned with the constitution.

“We are witnessing attempts to intimidate us for carrying out our duties. We refuse to be harassed for simply doing our jobs, and we demand assurance of our safety as leaders,” stated Senator Cherargei.

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, leading the ODM caucus, echoed similar sentiments, condemning the ongoing attacks on Senator Omtatah. He emphasized the importance of ensuring Omtatah’s safety and emphasized that it should not be linked to his professional responsibilities.

“We seek assurances regarding his well-being and demand that his safety be guaranteed. These attacks should not interfere with his duties,” Senator Sifuna asserted.
