Why Prezzo doesn’t believe in religion anymore

Faith and religion are deeply personal topics for Rapper Prezzo. In a conversation with podcaster Every Other Time With Eric, Prezzo revealed that he no longer practices any religion.

“I am not a Christian, I am not a Buddhist, I am not a Muslim,” he stated.

He shared a confusing experience he had with Islam. “I believe in God, but I don’t believe in religion,” Prezzo said. His journey through Christianity also left him with doubts.

“As a child, I attended madrasa because my dad took me there. The maalim used to be harsh with me, and I was scared to speak up,” he recalled.

Later, his mother introduced him to Christianity, but he observed behaviours that seemed more about show than faith. “I used to hear my mom’s friends talking about their new cars and showing off at church. It made me question whether they were there to pray or just to flaunt their status.”

Prezzo also converted from Christianity to Islam at one point. “I embraced Islam but wasn’t guided properly,” he said.

“They even gave me a new name, Jaheim.” However, the name brought unexpected reactions from others.

“When people met me and heard my name, Jaheim, their facial expressions changed. They asked who gave me that name, and I told them it was from someone who introduced me to Islam. The reactions were telling.”

His experience with the name Jaheim was particularly unsettling. “I thought it was a cool name because of a US singer named Jaheim, but my girlfriend revealed that it actually means ‘hellfire.’ I was shocked and disappointed when I learned its true meaning.”

Prezzo also reflected on the rarity of Muslims converting to Christianity. “It’s rare to hear about a Muslim converting to Christianity because in Islam, converting someone to Islam is seen as a blessing. But it’s uncommon for the reverse to happen,” he said.

In the end, Prezzo concluded that his faith journey is a personal one. “I realized it’s just me and my God. I was born alone, and I will die alone. I’m not going to follow the crowd. That’s why I decided to step away from organized religion,” he shrugged.
