Echesa Admitted to Hospital after Falling Ill in Police Custody » Capital News

NAIROBI, Kenya, March 30 – Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa was admitted to Karen Hospital on Saturday after falling ill at Muthaiga Police cells, where he was detained.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale confirmed the news through a post on his social media page.

“Friends and relatives of Rashid Mohammed Echesa, we’ve now secured the release of the former CS from Muthaiga Police cells. He is now at a hospital in Nairobi. All shall be well,” the legislator stated.

Echesa was arrested on Thursday for his alleged involvement in extortion targeting Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa and is scheduled to appear in court on April 2.

Police said that Echesa had been evading arrest as they attempted to question him for possible prosecution.

This development follows the arrest and prosecution of William Simiyu Matere, alias Elijah, in a Kibera Court the previous week for extorting over Sh240 million from Barasa.
