NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 30 – Over 30,000 private security guards are set to undergo mass registration for the issuance of Guard Force Numbers (GFN), marking a pivotal step in ensuring compliance with licensing regulations established by the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA).
Scheduled to take place at Uhuru Park, the registration drive will extend to bouncers, stewards, and close protection officers, broadening its reach within the security sector.
“The objective of this initiative is to formally initiate the Mass Registration of Guard Force Numbers for more than 30,000 private security officers in line with the ongoing mandatory nationwide security vetting, training, and licensing of all private security officers,” a statement from the Authority states.
The event will be overseen by Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo alongside other dignitaries.
Fazul Mahamed, the Director-General of PSRA, emphasized the legal obligation for private security personnel to undergo vetting and registration, underscoring the significance of the exercise in enhancing professional standards within the industry.
“The training, registration, and licensing of private security officers are not only mandatory statutory requirements but also crucial for addressing key professional development aspects within the private security sector,” Mohamed affirmed.
Sections 21 and 28 of the Private Security Regulation Act No. 13 of 2016 mandate that individuals engaged in the provision of private security services in Kenya must undergo security vetting and registration by the Private Security Regulatory Authority in accordance with the Act.
