KIENI, Kenya Apr 2 – Grief has struck Satima Village in Kieni West following the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl by an unknown assailant on Monday evening.
The body of Stella Wambui was discovered dumped in a shamba just a few kilometers from her home.
Police said her clothes were torn, and part of her ear was missing, marking a gruesome and unprecedented incident in the village.
Kieni West Police Boss Samuel Ndegwa said initial investigations revealed Stella had attended a party with her mother at their grandfather’s home.
They left for their nearby home around 6 p.m., taking different routes. However, Stella never made it home, prompting a search.
Despite efforts, Stella remained missing until her body was discovered around 8:30 a.m. the next day in the shamba. Signs of strangulation and ear mutilation further intensified the shock and horror of the crime.
Samuel Gathaine, the girl’s grandfather, recounted hosting a family gathering where blessings were offered before everyone dispersed. The news of Stella’s disappearance and subsequent murder shattered the peaceful gathering.
Regina Wanjugu, Stella’s cousin, expressed the family’s anguish, demanding a thorough investigation and justice. “We believe the killer lurks among us. We demand justice for Wambui,” she declared.
Police have launched investigations, and Stella’s body was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in Mweiga for examination.
The incident has left the community reeling in shock and fear, underscoring the urgent need for swift action to apprehend the perpetrator and ensure the safety of all residents.
