Naivasha MP released on Ksh 50,000 bond

Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara has been released on a personal bond of Ksh 50,000.

MP Kihara had been charged with the offensive conduct likely to breach the peace contrary to Section 94(1) of the Penal Code.

Trial Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi released the embattled Naivasha MP pending a ruling on whether she will face charges of the offensive conduct.

MP Kihara now awaits a court hearing on 29th July, 2025, to determine whether the validity of the charges against her.

The development comes after the MP was presented at the Milimani Law Courts on Friday a day after her arrest by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after she declined to honor summons for alleged incitement and undermining the authority of a public officer.

Kihara was whisked from her home in Maraigushu to Naivasha police station where she denied allegations of being behind the chaos in Naivasha that saw several traders lose their property to hired goons.

In her defense, the lawmaker termed the summons against her as unconstitutional, accusing the state of intimidation.
